Try Harder or Try Jesus

After trying their hardest to jump across the room–and never succeeding–the kids found it much easier just to walk across the white paper cross.

The distance was just too far, just like the distance between a perfect God and sinful people is just too far for us cross on our own. We need the help of Jesus!

Then we watched as one tiny drop of iodine ruined an entire jar of water. We talked about how just one act of disobedience proves that we don't really trust God, that we are sinners who deserve His anger.

The kids were amazed to watch the ammonia not only remove the stain of the iodine, but stay in the water and kept cleaning it even when we put more iodine in after the initial cleansing. An awesome illustration of how Jesus comes into our lives, forgives us and makes us clean, and then forgives us over and over, helping us to have power over sin every day!

Thanks to all the parents who sent back the 3-D glasses this week, we had plenty to go around as the kids worked on their "survival guides" in their small groups.

Sometimes, our small groups aren't so small! But the kids did a great job decoding, looking up verses, and thinking about the lesson. Fun moment: showing them a tiny kernel of popcorn and explaining how it is so much better once it has been transformed into a delicious snack! Next time you have popcorn together, ask your kids what that transformation reminds us of!!
